🚛 A locomotive… on a truck?
It’s not an everyday occurrence to see a railway vehicle outside of the tracks. But that was the case last week for InRail locomotive E191-102: stuck in Rovigo because of wheel damages, our workshop was given the challenge of “bringing it home”. After various meetings with the ECM, workshops and carriers, the most efficient solution was revealed to be the most unexpected one: transporting it by road, instead of by rail.
In fact, the restrictions imposed by the damages would not have allowed a journey by rail directly to the Udine workshop; first, it should have made a “pit-stop” in a closer workshop to be conditioned, and only after that it could have been brought to Udine. This procedure would surely have prolonged the – already long – wait to bring the vehicle back in operation.
So, we made an agreement with the company CISAF SRL, already an expert in the sector, who offered us their service and support. Our maintenance technicians spent two days in Rovigo to prepare the locomotive to be loaded on the trailer with the help of ramps.
After a journey of around 10 hours through the night of June 18, the E191-102 arrived at the workshop at 6.30 a.m. last Thursday!
